Good picture. I think I most like the indication of the sleeve on his "ice arm". Whether it was intentional or not, the ice's placement appears to indicate the folds of the arm sleeve.
Question-
Are the elements simply meant to be symbolic, or are they intended to be physical?
Eh, the elements were originally meant to be symbolic, but I didn't put much care into it so I guess they're just literal now.
If I wanted them to be symbolic, the fire would have gone on his right arm, and would have been held up; ice on his left pointed down; they would have been positioned like the baphomet's. The right usually symbolizes masculinity, logic, and lightness. Left is femininity, emotion, heaviness. But whatev; it's my character, Nekros, anyways, demonstrating his power. More of an unplanned sketch than anything else, because his magic isn't that physical either. Heh. Also I disagree with it being 'good', more like spewed out at the last second; rushed. I do like the shading on the left side of his scarf thing, but the lineart and shading and proportion everywhere else is shitty and careless.
I immediately saw it as symbolic rather than literal myself. Because of where the flame is in relation to the lighting on his face, my immediate reaction was "The flame isn't there physically; it's his will ablaze, not fuel".
As for which side is which (left versus right)... can't you just mirror the image?
Anyway, it's an awesome picture. Love the hood details in particular.
A brand new monthly article which showcases some of deviantART's finest equine artists, as well as recognizing the lesser-known but equally talented ones. Interviews, helpful tutorials and features can all be found here too! I hope you enjoy it.
The idea of this contest is to set you up completely blind with a mythical being - from any world culture - and turn you loose to come up with a deviation based around it!
In this article you will find many thumbnails of the sun in different forms, all photography featured here by the club feature-me. Please show your support for these artists and their work and the article so that more people can see their work.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
A collection of the most beautiful and amazing square photographs I found among my favourites. Please have a look and give these artists the attention they deserve!
